Oliver HG68 High Clearance Modification
Serial Number 46CA442
1949 Model Year
Here is a video of the running tractor:
This highly modified Oliver HG-68 (68 refers to the
original tread width of 68") has been widened to 80"
o.c. to straddle two 40" bedded rows. It has also had the
track lengthened with two more rollers per side and raised on
the pipe pads for higher clearance. Since increasing the track
radius would speed up the tractor, a Model A Ford auxiliary transmission
has been added. This tractor was used in the San Jose area to
carry irrigation pipe in broccoli and cauliflower fields(which
explains the racks on both sides). The seat has been eliminated
and a hand clutch added so that one operator can both operate
the tractor and move the pipe. Perhaps a dozen or so of these
crawlers were locally modified as there are several others known
to be still in existence.
The tractor runs well and is ready for you to show
it. It gets a lot of attention at any tractor show!
